Is He Really the Sexiest Man?

Do you think this passage means that Jude Law weighs only 150 pounds?

So how did the Jude Law experiment work out?

Without doubt, he showed guts (or hubris) to appear in six movies that have been released in the past two months. Not to mention posing for countless magazine covers. GQ's profile waxed ecstatic over his "stunning symmetry and flawless bone structure," claiming he'd been "rendered into 150 pounds of chewed Bubblicious in Gap wear," whatever that means. According to GQ, his films managed to "redefine the fantasy-action film and expose the sexual psyche of the contemporary male."

Well, not really. "Sky Captain" didn't redefine much of anything; it's struggling to get to $40 million domestic. If "Alfie" exposed anything, it's that its take on the "sexual psyche" is anachronistic. It seems stalled under $15 million. Jude's brief turn as Errol Flynn (news) in "The Aviator" is flashy but microscopic -- the movie belongs to Leonardo. Narrating "Lemony Snicket" must have been fun, but it's hardly a career step. As for "Closer," Clive Owen steals the show.

The lesson? There's such a thing as overexposure, Jude, even for those elite few who are "chewed Bubblicious."

Get In the Christmas Spirit

A couple days ago, I suggested and the gracious and witty DeoDuce acted. She's organized the Bear Flag League to join the Friends of Iraq Blogger Challenge. The Challenge pits us against famous bloggers like PowerLine and Captain's Quarters to raise money to assist the good people of Afghanistan and Iraq through the Spirit of America.

The first phase of the Friends of Iraq Blogger Challenge has begun. The Challenge is a friendly fundraising competition among leading bloggers in support of Spirit of America projects in Iraq. “Blog” stands for Web log which is a very easy way for people to publish information and views on the Internet. Bloggers are people that have blogs.

What they're saying about the Spirit of America ...
The Wall Street Journal
Spirit of America: "A coalition of the can-do."
Dan Gillmor, San Jose Mercury News
Spirit of America: "a Web-based humanitarian project that almost anyone can endorse, regardless of one's stance on the wisdom of the war."
LtCol David Couvillon, U.S. Marines
“They say there aren’t any ‘silver bullets’ for improving things in Iraq. I don’t know. Spirit of America just might be a silver bullet.”

Spirit of America sponsors projects, large and small, to assist the rebuilding and spread freedom and democracy. Click on this link to find out more about some of their projects.

I hope my readers will make a contribution. It's easy using Paypal or a credit card. Or you can even send a check.

In just a half a day, we've soared to #7 on the Challenge. If you all contribute, we can beat the Northern Alliance!

Happy Thanksgiving

Here's my contribution to the feast

The Irishlass Crab Stuffed Mushrooms

24 lg. mushroom caps, cleaned
12 or so stems from the mushroom caps, diced
1/3 c. butter, melted
6 oz. fresh dungeness crabmeat
3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
2 Tbsp. minced green onions
1 Tbsp. horseradish
1/4 c. dry bread crumbs
1 tbsp. minced parsley
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Adjust rack to upper third. Saute mushroom stems. Brush mushrooms with melted butter. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Drain crabmeat, discard liquid and set meat aside.

In a medium bowl, stir together mayonnaise and horseradish. Add bread crumbs, cheese, green onion mushroom stems and parsley. Stir until well mixed. Add crabmeat and toss with a fork. Mound 1 level tablespoon of the mixture into each mushroom. Bake for 5 minutes or until warm, then broil 4 inches from heat for about 1 minute or until light golden brown. Serve immediately.

Fly Me To The Moon I've Got The World On A String

Some guy in England had to listen to every album produced in the month of October.

According to Steve Redmond, "the biggest rift at the moment is between people who pay for music and people who don't. For the first time, over-40s form the majority of music buyers. It started changing over the past three or four years and became a fact last year. Kids just aren't interested in the physical object any more." And if they're not interested in buying albums any more, why bother aiming anything at them?

Boycott Ocean's 12

I've started a project blog and would really appreciate a link from all my readers.

Although they consider themselves important artists, I think film stars have the very same job that I have. My job is to sell advertising for the company that I work for, and their job is to sell movie tickets for the company that is producing their film. Just as I would never walk into my prospective customer's office and tell him that he's an idiot if he doesn't vote Republican, these film stars should not tell me that I'm an idiot because I am a Republican.

If they give money to their guy, or say nice things about him, or vote for him, I don't complain. I only protest when they attack my side. This boycott is my small protest.

Please come over and visit my site www.boycottoceans12.blogspot.com

Thanks

More Cool Your Jets Advice

Deserve Victory!

Steady on crew. If you've been reading the early exit polls at NRO's The Corner all day and are just about ready to give a Kent Brockmanesque welcome to our new Democratic overlord, snap the hell out of it. It's going to be a long day/evening and we can't be running around like chicken littles at the first hint of bad news. Stay strong, keep the faith, and if you haven't voted yet, get 'er done.

My Predictions for A Beautiful Morning (and evening)

The Bush campaign has done everything right everywhere except here in California. If I was the President, tomorrow morning I would be breaking up with Parsky and his whole team of incompetents. In Sacramento, one of the counties you would target if you had any kind of plan, less than 10% of the Republican precincts have precinct captains. If it wasn't for the fabulous community service plan at my alma mater, St. Francis High School, they'd have only a handful of volunteers. What a bunch of losers.

But fortunately, the campaign in the remainder of the country is tremendous, and we're going to have an excellent night.

I'm off to vote and do my bit to Get Out The Vote.

Care to make your own predictions?

A Beautiful Morning
by Felix Cavaliere & Eddie Brigati

It's a beautiful morning
I think I'll go outside for a while
(and just smile)
Just diggin' some clean fresh air for
(no sense in stayin' inside)
If the weather's fine and you've got the time
It's your chance to wake up and plan
Another brand new day (lead the way)

It's a beautiful morning
Each bird keeps singin' his own song (so long)
I've got to be on my way now
(no fun just hangin' around)
I've got to cover ground
You couldn't keep me down
It just ain't no good if the sun shines
And you're still inside (shouldn't hide)...

There will be children with
robins and flowers
Sunshine caresses each
new waking hour

Seems to me that people keep seein'
More and more each day
(gotta say) lead the way (it's ok)
Every day you got to say it's ok

Wouldn't it be great if we held the margin for Kerry in California to under 5 percent!!!

So Many Lies, So Little Time

Rocket Man at PowerLineBlog tips up to the Washington Times exclusive, Kerry Lies Again.

U.N. ambassadors from several nations are disputing assertions by Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry that he met for hours with all members of the U.N. Security Council just a week before voting in October 2002 to authorize the use of force in Iraq.
An investigation by The Washington Times reveals that while the candidate did talk for an unspecified period to at least a few members of the panel, no such meeting, as described by Mr. Kerry on a number of occasions over the past year, ever occurred.
