Gerrymander - Jerrymander - I'll Never Win the Spelling Bee
I was just having a smug moment that I'm number one on google for Jerrymander - linking to a post about my friends Ted Costa, Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy and Congressman Devin Nunes working on a reapportionment initiative, when I discovered that I'm number one 'cuz I spelled it wrong. Must avoid smugness.

Subject: California Republican National Delegation Convention -- Delegate Application Information
Dear Friends,
As we begin the journey toward Victory in November 2004, supporters are invited to apply for a position as a California Delegate or Alternate to next summer's Republican National Convention to be held in New York City. As it will again be my honor to organize the California Delegation - our nation's largest - I am pleased to announce that nominations for positions on the Delegation can be made directly by visiting http://www.cagopdelegation.com and completing the application form.
As California has long led the way in technology developments, the California Republican National Convention Delegation is seeking to make our application process as easy and available to everyone by utilizing the World Wide Web to accept applications, provide information on the Convention and to regularly communicate with our delegates and all of those interested in Convention activities and programs.
Due to the limitations placed upon the Delegation, applications will only be accepted as submitted through the Delegation's website prior to January 9, 2004. Applications will not be accepted via the mail, fax or any other means -- although you are free to contact us for questions and other individual requests. By utilizing an electronic application process for everyone, we will be able to more effectively manage the delegate selection process and give personal attention to your individual application given the very tight timetable by which we are legally bound.
Additional information regarding the Convention, New York City, and ways you can become more involved in next year's effort will also be posted on this website and updated. Please check it regularly as it will be your most up-to-date resource.
Visit www.cagopdelegation.com today to find information and an application to participate in the California Republican National Convention Delegation 2004 but rest assured, your individual information will be held in confidence.
Feel free to forward this email to others who would also be interested in joining us next summer. Thank you for joining our efforts for Victory in 2004 and we look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Gerry Parsky

Santa Giftee
My giftee got her gift! Hee Hee
Well, my secret santa came through with a great book and a CD.
At first I was confused on the CD. It's Bobby Sherman, and I confess, I didn't really know who that was. But as I looked at the songs listed on the back I find that there is a song with the name Julie in it. Once upon a time I had posted (look at the very bottom of the post) on songs with names in them. I didn't think there was one with Julie.
I was wrong. There is a song by Bobby Sherman entitled "Julie do you love me?". Very cool.
And the book? Very cool. A Mathematician Reads the Newspaper by John Allen Paulos was on my wish list and looks to be an excellent read.
Thank you very much! A surprise package makes the day.
I hope the secret santa gift I sent didn't suck.
Julie, Do Ya Love Me
Bobby Sherman
- written by Tom Bahler
- as recorded by Bobby Sherman
- entered the Billboard Top 40 the week of August 15, 1970 and
stayed for 13 weeks, peaking at #5 the week of September 19, 1970
Bein' alone at night makes me sad, girl
Yeah, it brings me down all right
Tossin' and turnin' and freezin' and burnin'
And cryin' all through the night
Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?
We had so much fun together
I was sure that you were mine
But leavin' you, baby, is drivin' me crazy
It's got me wonderin' all the time
Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?
Honey, you cried the day I left you
Even though we knew I couldn't stay
But baby, remember, I'll be back September
But till then I'll write you every day
Whoa-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Come on, Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?
Oh-oh
Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya love me?
Ah, Julie, Julie, Julie, do ya care?
Julie, Julie, are ya thinkin' of me?
Julie, Julie, will ya still be there?
Justene, thanks so much for organizing us -- it was a blast

It Might As Well Be Spring
I've lately become a big fan of Bossa Nova, and I'm closing out the evening with Astrud Gilberto (the original Girl from Ipanema)
It Might As Well Be Spring
(1945) Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II
The things I used to like, I don't like any more,
I want a lot of other things I've never had before,
It's just like my mamma says, I sit around and mourn
Pretending that I am so wonderful and knowing I'm adored
I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm,
I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string,
I'd say that I had spring fever,
But I know it isn't spring.
I am starry eyed and vaguely discontented,
Like a nightingale without a song to sing.
Oh, why should I have spring fever,
When it isn't even spring?
I keep wishing I were somewhere else,
Walking down a strange new street,
Hearing words I have never never heard,
From a man I've yet to meet.
I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams,
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing,
I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud,
Or a robin or a bluebird on the wing,
But I feel so gay in a melancholy way,
That it might as well be spring,
It might as well be, might as well be,
It might as well be spring.

Jack Nicholson Sings
Just got back from Something's Gotta Give with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. It was hillarious and completely fab. Stay til the very end or you'll miss Jack singing.
As Ella would sing
Somethings gotta give,
When an irresistible force such as you
Meets and old immovable object like me
You can bet as sure as you live
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
When an irrepressible smile such as yours
Warms an old implacable heart such as mine
Don't say no because I insist.
Somewhere, somehow,
Someone's gonna be kissed.
So en garde who knows what the fates have in store
From their vast mysterious sky?
I'll try hard ignoring those lips I adore
But how long can anyone try?
Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight it with all of our might,
Chances are some heavenly star spangled night
We'll find out as sure as we live
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
Fight, fight, fight it with all of our might,
Chances are some heavenly star spangled night
We'll find out as sure as we live
Something's gotta give, something's gotta give,
Something's gotta give.
Something's gotta , something's gotta give

Schwarzenegger Christmas
Today I opened my mail and there was a beautiful Christmas ornament from the Governor! Wowie! It's etched crystal with the official Seal of the Governor of the State of California and the words Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver 2003 around the edge. I was hoping for a Christmas Card -- this is fantastic.
I usually get lots of political Christmas Cards. I've been a member of the state party for over 15 years, a delegate to the National Republican Convention and a donor. It's pretty obvious when people are using these lists for their cards, 'cuz sometimes I get cards from people I've never even heard of.
