Freedom Flight to the WWII Memorial
Message from KFBK
Thanks to your generous donations, we have surpassed our goal and will send a privately chartered plane full of WWII veterans to the Memorial in D.C.!
Recognizing what blessed lives we are each living in the year 2004, it seems only appropriate that our nation pay tribute to the generation that made such freedoms possible... The Greatest Generation.
Six decades later, the brave men and women of World War II have at last been honored with a breathtaking Memorial on the Capitol Mall, dedicated just two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it comes at a season in their lives that makes cross-country travel a near insurmountable challenge for many of them.
KFBK's Kelly Brothers and Chris Lane have put together a trip to make it all possible for some of the veterans of WWII... an obstacle & stress-free trip to the nation's capitol via chartered jet, so that those who fought may see and touch the symbol of their sacrifice.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of you, our audience, we are now able to fill a privately chartered jet with WWII veterans and fly them to the Capitol. You came out in droves, donating over $75,000 in cash!
Alex Spanos, himself a WWII veteran, has written a generous check to cover the cost of our private United Airlines flight. In addition, Sacramento's favorite son and KFBK alumni, Rush Limbaugh, donated $50,000 to the fund, bringing our total to an amazing $220,000!
These donations ensure that a full plane of veterans will go completely free -- all expenses covered, and it allows them to bring a companion to physically assist them if need be. Perhaps most importantly, it allows them to share their history and sacrifice with a loved one.
The plane lifts off June 21st. Keep it tuned to News Talk 1530 KFBK as we bring the trip to you with live reports from the road!
Other donors we need to acknowledge with a huge THANK YOU, include: Pacific Coast Building Products, Trainor-Robertson, I.D. Marketing and the employees of Sleep Train!
